Smoke & Felt Partners with Disability Studies at King’s University College at Western University on New All Access Project
(LONDON, ONTARIO) – Smoke & Felt is proud to announce it is collaborating with "All Access", an accessibility campaign driven by the academic research of Dr. Katzman and Dr. Preston, assistant professors in Disability Studies from King's University College at Western University.
Smoke & Felt is deeply involved in the project, providing content development, strategic consulting, and student mentorship over the 2020-2021 academic year.
“All Access is a full-year, cross-course project providing Disabilities Studies students an opportunity to mobilize what they’ve learned in class,” said Dr. Jeffrey Preston, an assistant professor who is leading the program. “By partnering with Smoke & Felt, students working on the All Access campaign will be better able to develop and communicate the campaign across the community.”
This year, Dr. Katzman and Dr. Preston are focusing on reducing inaccessibility at public events as we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic. The goal of the All Access campaign is to help organizations confront the physical, communication, and attitudinal barriers faced by attendees, and set them on the right path to change.
“I’m incredibly excited to have Smoke & Felt work with Dr. Katzman and Dr. Preston’s research team on the All Access campaign,” said Matt Dusenbury, the company’s founder. “Ensuring public events and spaces are accessible to everyone is vital. Together, I’m confident we will build a campaign that reduces these barriers and opens up access in our communities.”
Students and faculty have already begun working on the All Access campaign through a variety of in-class instruction and coursework. The full project will see its official launch in Spring 2021.
“This is a project as ambitious as it is necessary,” said Dusenbury. “Together we will open up not only people’s minds but the public spaces of London.”
