Labour Education Centre Partners with Smoke & Felt to Expand its Program Reach to More Workers

(TORONTO, ONTARIO) –  Smoke & Felt is thrilled to announce it is partnering with the Labour Education Centre to create and manage its digital communications. S&F will work with LEC on a variety of projects, delivering new and regular content for training and education programs that transform the lives of workers.

“I’m so glad that the Labour Education Centre has chosen Smoke & Felt to handle its digital messaging needs,” said Matt Dusenbury, founder of the creative communications firm. “LEC offers a vast and growing array of transformative programs that can change lives. I’m excited for S&F to help spread its message and build on the good work that’s already being done.”

Beginning in 1988, the Centre was originally intended as a resource for labour unions to deliver labour studies, adjustment programs, leadership, and activist training and advocacy for workers and disadvantaged populations. The institution played a central role in the formation of the Toronto Community Benefits Network, and successfully forged a strong coalition of grassroots community groups and trade unions to impact the construction of the Eglinton Crosstown Light Rail Transit.

As an organization committed to helping workers and all members of the community access decent work and move our communities towards social, economic, and environmental justice, the Labour Education Centre works to deliver a variety of training and education programs. These include everything from basic skills like language and digital literacy, to trades training. To fulfil its mandate, LEC is also part of the Working Green program, an initiative that seeks to provide opportunities for workers to take action on climate change.

“I have been impressed with Smoke and Felt’s work at the Toronto & York Region Labour Council,'' said LEC Executive Director, Steve Shallhorn. “We look forward to working with S&F to expand the reach of LEC’s core offerings throughout the region and indeed all of Canada.”

Smoke & Felt will work closely with LEC to augment its communications in ways that help deliver value to individuals and communities while expanding the organization’s mandate across all of its channels, beginning with its website and social media platforms.

“Working with the Labour Education Centre is a wonderful partnership for Smoke & Felt,” said Dusenbury. “I’m looking forward to the great work that is yet to come as we continue to build LEC’s reach and bring its exciting offerings to more people.”
