Smoke & Felt to Lead CAPSA’s Multi-Channel Livestream of Recovery Day Ottawa 2020
(TORONTO, ONTARIO) – The Community Addictions Peer Support Association (CAPSA), a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering individuals impacted by substance use disorder, will deepen its relationship with Smoke & Felt at this year’s Recovery Day Ottawa. In addition to promotion and marketing the event, Smoke & Felt will also spearhead the debut of the interactive multi-channel livestream of the day’s festivities, a first in the event’s history.
“CAPSA has been working with Smoke & Felt for a number of years to handle our social media and digital communications,” said Gord Garner, Executive Director of CAPSA. “The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has made us rethink how we can still deliver a big event like Recovery Day Ottawa to our community. Through our partnership with Smoke & Felt, we will be able to drive greater conversations about substance use disorder and increased wellness not just in Ottawa, but across Canada.”
Recovery Day Ottawa, an annual event hosted by CAPSA every September would typically draw a crowd of close to 2000 for a day of speeches, community groups, vendors, and entertainment at City Hall in Ottawa. For this year, CAPSA and Smoke & Felt will be translating that sense of community and camaraderie to online spaces.
The event is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. on Friday, September 25, with simultaneous video livestreams across all major social networks.
“Recovery Day Ottawa is vital not just to CAPSA, but the entire Ottawa community,” said Matt Dusenbury, Founder of Smoke & Felt. “While COVID-19 may present a new challenge, I’m incredibly excited at the possibilities that lay ahead for us by providing an entirely virtual experience.”
“I think this will be the best Recovery Day Ottawa yet,” he added.
The move to livestream Recovery Day Ottawa shows the continued strength in the relationship between CAPSA and Smoke & Felt. The two organizations have worked together for several years on communications, digital marketing, and campaign management. Earlier this year, they launched the #StepAwayFromStigma virtual fundraiser to raise donations for PPE and food for the most vulnerable in the Ottawa region. That event blew passed expectations, ultimately raising more than $10,000 – more than double its original goal.
“2020 continues to be a year defined by how we meet challenges and surpass expectations,” said Dusenbury. “I can’t wait to have the folks in Ottawa join us for the new Recovery Day Ottawa experience.”
